DJI has introduced the Osmo Action 5 Pro, which includes several upgrades compared to its predecessor. The camera features a 1/1.3-inch sensor, the same as the Action 4, but now with 13.5 stops of dynamic range. This improvement is intended to improve video quality. The maximum photo resolution has also increased from 10 megapixels on the Action 4 to 40 megapixels. The lens specifications remain unchanged, with a 155-degree field of view and an f/2.8 aperture.

The camera supports 4K video recording at up to 120 frames per second in a 16:9 aspect ratio, as with the previous model, but now it also allows 4K 120p capture in a 4:3 aspect ratio. This change enables ultra-slow-motion recording across the entire sensor, giving users the flexibility to crop the image later. However, the resolution is still limited to 4K Ultra HD.

The Osmo Action 5 Pro includes a new 1950mAh battery, offering up to four hours of continuous usage. This represents approximately a 50% increase in battery life compared to the previous model. The camera remains compatible with the older batteries as well. The increased battery life is due in part to a new 4nm chip and algorithm designed to optimize energy consumption. DJI claims the camera can record video for up to 3.6 hours even at temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F).

A new feature in the Osmo Action 5 Pro is subject tracking and centering. This digital feature adjusts the composition to keep the subject in the center of the frame, which could be beneficial for action sports and other creators. However, this mode reduces the resolution to 2.7K. The camera continues to offer stabilization features, including HorizonSteady, which keeps the camera level through 360 degrees of motion.

The Osmo Action 5 Pro is certified to be waterproof to a depth of 20 meters without a case, which is an increase of 2 meters compared to the previous model. The camera can start recording automatically when submerged and includes a pressure gauge to track underwater depth, duration, and altitude data.

The camera body is the same size as the Action 4, but both OLED screens have increased in size due to reduced bezels. The rear screen now measures 2.5 inches diagonally, up from 2.25 inches, making it the largest rear screen on a mainstream action camera according to DJI. As with the previous model, the Action 5 Pro is compatible with the DJI Mic 2 for improved audio quality, while the built-in microphone can capture ambient sound.

The Osmo Action 5 Pro is priced lower than its predecessor, with the Pro Combo package available for $349. This package includes the camera, a battery, a protective frame, and a quick-release adapter mount. The Adventure Combo, priced at $449, adds two more batteries, a charger, and a 1.5-meter extension rod. Both packages are available through DJI and authorized retailers.
