SVS has announced the launch of its new flagship subwoofer series, the  17-Ultra R|Evolution. This series represents a complete redesign of subwoofer technology for the Ohio-based audio brand, incorporating various innovations aimed at improving performance and user experience.

The 17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofers feature a newly engineered 17-inch driver, the largest used by SVS to date. This driver is designed to handle high power levels, utilizing a dual eight-inch voice coil to maintain stable transfer of electro-magnetic current from the subwoofer's amplifier to the 55-pound toroidal ferrite magnet motor. The voice coil is made from copper-clad aluminum wire to optimize thermal capacity and magnetic field strength.

The 17-inch driver is composed of a glass fiber composite cone, a long-throw catenary rubber surround, and a toroidal ferrite electromagnetic motor. This combination allows for deep bass output, with the sealed  SB17-Ultra model reaching as low as 15Hz and the ported  PB17-Ultra model reaching 12Hz. These specifications are designed to deliver accurate frequency response and maintain acoustic linearity.

Powering the subwoofers is a dual mono-block STA-2800D Class-D amplifier. This amplifier uses MOSFET technology, driving the voice coils individually to increase power and control. Eight high-current MOSFETs ensure that the subwoofers operate efficiently while delivering the necessary power for high-output performance.

To complement the amplifier’s power capabilities, SVS has integrated an onboard AC line conditioner with power factor correction. Accommodating the limits of a typical 15-amp home AC circuit. This system stabilizes incoming voltage and reduces electromagnetic and radio interference, making sure one receives consistent performance even with fluctuations in home power supply.

The 17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofers are equipped with a 295MHz Analog Devices DSP (digital signal processor), which manages the performance of the amplifier and monitors current and thermal levels to optimize efficiency. The DSP also includes advanced digital audio processing and DACs with 120 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio, which the company states provide more headroom, lower noise, and improved signal fidelity.

The subwoofers can be controlled using the SVS smartphone app, which offers users access to a wide range of settings. These include volume control, phase adjustment, low pass filter, and room gain compensation. The app also features six parametric equalizers and memory presets for easy system adjustments. For the ported PB17-Ultra model, the app also allows users to adjust port tuning.

Another key feature is the Auto EQ Subwoofer Room Correction, which uses the built-in microphone on a smartphone to apply equalization filters. This function is designed to optimize frequency response based on the acoustic properties of the room. An over-the-air update will enable this feature which SVS says is coming soon.

The SVS 17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofers are now available for purchase. The SB17-Ultra, the sealed cabinet model, is priced at $2,499.99, while the ported PB17-Ultra is priced at $2,999.99. Both models come in Piano Gloss Black and Black Oak Wood Veneer finishes.

SVS backs its products with a five-year warranty, 45-day in-home trial, free shipping, and other customer service guarantees.
