Nakamichi’s New DRAGON System Hits the Market with an Hefty Price Tag
Nakamichi has announced the latest addition to its DRAGON Home Surround Sound System which now features four 12" subwoofers. The new subwoofer is built with a long-throw carbon fiber-reinforced aluminum driver and a matching 12" passive radiator, allowing it to deliver up to 750 watts of power.
It weighs 80 pounds and according to Nakamichi can play as low as 19Hz. This is achieved through the use of a lightweight, aluminum cone that is reinforced with a wafer-thin layer of carbon fiber. This combination of materials offers a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, which contributes to the subwoofer's damping capabilities and overall performance.
In addition to the 12" subwoofer, the DRAGON system offers alternative subwoofer configurations, including dual enclosures with either 12" drivers or dual-opposing 8" drivers. These configurations are part of Nakamichi's modular approach, which allows customers to mix and match up to four subwoofer cabinets to customize their sound systems.
The DRAGON system itself is a 11.4.6 setup, featuring 21 channels, 15 digital amplifiers, wireless quad subwoofers, six upfiring speakers, and a pair of Omni-Motion Reference Surrounds. It is compatible with both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats.
Nakamichi has introduced two new system configurations featuring the 12" subwoofer:
- A flagship system with four 12" subwoofers, designed for those who prioritize powerful bass. This setup includes a 58" main unit, 2 Omni-Motion Reference Surrounds, and delivers 5000 watts of power. It is priced at $8,499.99.
- A more compact system with two 12" subwoofers, a 58" main unit, 2 Omni-Motion Reference Surrounds, and 3500 watts of power. This configuration is priced at $5,599.99.
These new system configurations will be available on the Nakamichi Official Web Store beginning later this month.
