DJI has introduced a new compact drone designed for users who are looking for an easy-to-use option without the need for a pilot license or extensive flying experience. The DJI Neo is a small, lightweight drone aimed at vloggers and casual users who want a simple way to capture aerial footage.

The DJI Neo is built with ease of use in mind. With the push of a button or a voice command like "Hey! Fly!", the drone lifts off from your hand and follows pre-set flight paths. Once it's done, it returns to your hand for a smooth landing. The drone can be controlled by voice commands, or users can connect it to their smartphones for more options. For those who prefer more control, the Neo is compatible with DJI’s Goggles 3, RC Motion 3, and FPV RC 3 controllers, allowing for extended range (up to 10 km) and access to advanced flight modes, including FPV stunts and handling in winds up to 18 mph (29 km/h).

At just 135 grams (3 ounces), the Neo avoids the FAA's drone regulations that require licensing for drones weighing 250 grams or more. Despite its small size, it includes useful features like an automatic return-to-home (RTH) function, which can be triggered if the drone runs into trouble mid-flight. The Neo is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera using a 1/2-inch sensor, capable of capturing 4K video at 30 frames per second or 1080p video at 60 fps. It has 22 GB of internal storage, enough for up to 40 minutes of 4K video or 55 minutes of 1080p video. Content can be transferred wirelessly to a smartphone via Wi-Fi or by using a USB-C connection to a computer.

To keep the Neo affordable and lightweight, DJI has included a single-axis gimbal, which stabilizes only vertical motion. While this doesn't offer the same smoothness as the multi-axis gimbals found on DJI’s more expensive drones, electronic image stabilization is used to help create steadier footage.

The Neo also features basic object tracking, which allows it to follow a designated target, such as a person’s face, making it ideal for vloggers or anyone looking for hands-free operation during outdoor activities. Users can also record audio through their smartphones or with the DJI Mic 2, which can pair with the drone for synchronized sound.

One limitation is the lack of obstacle avoidance, so users need to be cautious when flying near trees or other obstacles.

The drone is designed with propeller guards to help prevent damage, making it more durable during minor collisions. DJI estimates a flight time of about 18 minutes per battery, and the Neo Combo model includes two extra batteries, providing up to 54 minutes of total flight time. Charging is simple with a USB-C cable, though the Combo version comes with a charging hub that can charge up to three batteries at once.

The DJI Neo is available for $199 without any controllers, while the Combo version, which includes two additional batteries, is priced at $289.
