DJI has launched a new drone in its Mini series, the Mini 4K, which offers an affordable price point that is likely to attract a wide range of users, especially those new to drone flying.

The Mini 4K is a lightweight drone under 250 grams which boasts a camera with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor capable of recording 4K video at 30 frames per second and 2.7K at 60 frames per second. The video bitrate reaches up to 100Mbps. Stability during flight is ensured by a three-axis gimbal, which should help the drone's ability to capture smooth video footage.

Further enriching DJI's lineup, the Mini 4K extends its flight capabilities to about 31 minutes according to the manufacturer, though real-world conditions may slightly reduce this duration. The drone can withstand winds up to a level 5 on the Beaufort scale and operates with a transmission range of up to 10 kilometers, though actual use may be more limited due to regulatory visual line of sight rules.

With a starting price of $299, just a $20 increase over its predecessor, the Mini 2 SE, the Mini 4K offers significant improvements, particularly in its video capabilities, making it an enticing option for beginners and drone enthusiasts looking for a cost-effective yet powerful model.

Despite its upgrades, the Mini 4K retains the same airframe as the earlier Mini 2 SE and lacks obstacle avoidance technology, except for a basic downward-facing sensor for landing. This could pose challenges for inexperienced pilots, as navigating without obstacle avoidance increases the risk of accidents.

The basic package, priced at $299, includes the drone, a controller, and one battery. Many users may find a single battery insufficient for extended use and might consider the Fly More Combo, which includes three batteries, a carrying case, and additional accessories like spare propellers.
